Often used in the breeding of exciting new hybrids H. americana is a garden worthy plant in it's own right.
It is hardy, compact and trouble free. Tiny, greenish-white, bell-shaped flowers in open, airy panicles are borne on slender, wiry stems extending well above the mound of leaves, typically to a height of 50cm in late spring to early summer.
