Polysticum setiferum 'Herrenhausen'
One of my favourite varieties of our native evergreen fern,
- 'Herrenhausen' forms very pretty elegant, lacy apple green filigree-fine fronds, which contrast well with other shade-loving foliage plants.
- It looks lovely in woodland settings in the shade garden or as a beautiful plant in a container mixed with other shade lovers
- Height 0.5m -1m
- Position: full or partial shade
- Soil: fertile, humus-rich, well-drained soil
- Rate of growth: average
- Hardiness: fully hardy
- Garden care: Incorporate lots of well-rotted leaf mould or garden compost when planting and use as mulch to help retain water
- Old foliage may be cut back in winter or left in place until April when the new fronds appear- I tend to leave the old fronds on until later
